So, can you have an emotionally repressed character (think John Sheppard or Master Chief) show emotions in a fic or does it always come across as completely out of character?

Perhaps instead of showing emotion, the character thinks it?

Depends on the situation. Believe me I understand, I've had and are still having those characters in my fics (like a certain leather jacketed Doctor...).
