I think the most daunting idea of writing an original fic is just that. It's original. There is nothing to prop your story up, it's just the words on the page that need to do the story that is so vivid in your head justice.
Then there is the whole idea of what is too much...or too little. I love Lord of the Rings, but there is absolutely no way I would ever, EVER write anything as detailed as Tolkien. Ick.
It's a weird thing because a good story doesn't require a ton of backstory, which in a world with wikis about everything seems a bit foreign to me. But look at Alice in Wonderland, for example. No one wanted/needed to know the history of the Mad Hatter or how the Queen of Hearts came into power...the story was just that. A story.

Forget it, I'm staying in my fanfic box. :P :P

The rules:

4. when your assignment comes, write 500 words about what happens when character 1 walks into a bar and meets a character from one of the other fandoms

Time...where did you go?
Feb. 11th, 2010 01:18 pmSo, yeah, the icons for halfamoon aren't going to happen this year. I got a ton of awesome, incredible women to icon and I want to make sure I do them justice. I think my plan is to have 365 women for next year's halfamoon, one for each day of the year...so I'll have a long term project.
I feel bad pulling out of it, but there is no way that I can get them done on time.
My help_haiti fic is moving along quite smoothly...now I just have to finish the edits and type it up. Yeah, I'm old school and write everything on paper...it's easier for me to edit that way.
And just a reminder...sign up for the scifibigbang is starting in March. I would love for y'all to sign up and join in the fun. Rules are this: write a 25k fic based on any sci-fi/fantasy show/movie/etc. or original idea (as long as it has sci-fi and/or fantasy elements) within the writing period (posting will happen in August).
Now I'm off to get some supplies for the little one's Valentine's Day party tomorrow... :D

The girl power list is coming along awesomely. I'm going to update the list today, so add your favorite female characters. I love the list and ideas so far! :)
I watched Night of the Museum 2 last night and seriously laughed. You have to understand...I am not a comedy movie person. I would much prefer a good sarcastic line or two in the middle of an action movie. But, dude, Hank Azaria=made of win. "This is not a dress. This is a tunic. It was the height of fashion 3,000 years ago, I assure you. Are there any other questions? "
And the security kid. And Custard.
It was pretty funny. OK, I'll stop giggling to myself now. :D

(I'm gonna change the background slightly from what I used the last time.) So, give me your favorite female characters--movies, TV, video games, cartoons, anime, whatever.
